sleeping babies

Drew is 5 weeks today! He is such a sweet baby. I am ready for him to start sleeping longer at night but I can't complain because he has been such a sweetie.

Avery crashed out... third day in a row that she has napped! Yay!!!

What Avery likes to do when she's not napping. We have moved her bed away from the window now so she can't do it anymore :)

Happy Easter!

We managed to make it to church this morning with a 2 1/2 year old and 2 week old. We kept Avery in church with us to avoid nursery germs. We were afraid she wouldn't want to sit that long but she did great. Drew slept the majority of the service and then wanted to go out and eat. Here is Drew crashed out after his big outing. The Easter bunny visited Avery last night and left her a duck and a few other treats. She had been telling me she wanted the Easter bunny to leave her a "big duck" so I found one at Marshall's for her. While Philip was getting dressed for church & I was nursing Drew, Avery was busy getting into her chocolate...Drew Update: I took Drew to the doctor this past Friday to treat his cord & he weighed 9 lbs, 5 ounces!! He has gained over a pound since birth :)

Neighborhood Easter Egg hunt/Cook Out

We are so fortunate to live on a street with such wonderful neighbors. There are many young couples, most with young kids, who we try to get together with every couple months. Last night we had a cook out at one of the couples houses followed by an egg hunt for the toddlers. These are all the kids minus 3 babies (Drew, Moses, and Ava).

Andrew Benson Athey

Baby Drew is here!
Drew arrived at 12:24 on March 26th. He weighed 8 lbs, 2 oz- 20 inches long.
I went to the hospital Thursday morning at 4 cm. My dr. thought I was more like a 1 or 2 at my appt the day before, but really couldn't tell because the head was so low that he was having a hard time getting around to the cervix to feel. He really wanted me at a 2 to induce but I told him I was willing to take my chances (of possibly having a longer labor if I was only a 1). When I checked in Thursday morning he was able to tell I was at a 4! I was contracting but not regular. The pitocin got the contractions going & they started my epidural. About 3 hrs. later I was at a 10 and ready to push.
Drew is 1 week old today. He is just a precious baby who for now just eats, sleeps, and poops. He is beginning to look around more, mainly in the morning and late at night. These are also times he likes to eat a lot.
We had a check up yesterday to check his weight and make sure his jaundice he had a little of in the hospital was gone. He is already above his birth wieght at 8 lbs, 5 oz and his skin coloring looked better.
We are SO thankful for our healthy baby boy.
More pictures to come.

Baby Update

I had my 40 wk appt yesterday & was dialated to a 1. I go back tomorrow to check progress. The plan is to induce Thursday if this little guy isn't here yet. Mom gets in tomorrow afternoon to keep Avery and will stay the following week :) Yay, I will need the help and am so thankful she can stay so long. Avery will enjoy having her here too and has been talking about all her family coming to see her after baby Drew is born. Her baby "Candy" already came out of her tummy so Snoopy is now a big sister. ha. She told me Dr. Macdonald took Candy out & now is going to take baby Drew out.
It is starting to feel surreal that I am about to be a mother of 2. I know it will be very life changing for us all.
I am feeling very blessed and thankful for all that God is providing for us. Babies are such wonderful miracles and I look forward to meeting this little guy in just a few days.
Pictures to come...

Spring!

I am so glad Spring is here! We love to be outdoors & the weather has been so pretty. Just in time to spend days at home in the backyard with a newborn and Avery :) We have enjoyed some of these pretty days going to the park, Dallas Arboretum, walks around the block, and playing in the backyard. Avery's favorite backyard activity right now has been swinging on her new swing set & playing in her water table. On the rainy days she has enjoyed playing at the sink with water, spoons, measuring cups, and shaving cream. Avery has been such a sweet girl lately, Philip and I have really enjoyed spending this last month together as a family of three. She continues to make us laugh and our hearts melt with her sensitive and nurturing personality. She is really missing her family lately & can't wait for everyone to come play with her when baby Drew is here.

A few pics...
Avery LOVES her swingset,
LOVES her daddy,

and LOVES the playhouses at the Arboretum.

Eating bunny ice cream from the ice cream man. We heard the ice cream truck today in the neighborhood but either missed him at our house or he didn't come down our street, so Avery and her daddy hopped on the bike & trailer and headed out to catch him. Avery has been saving money in her snoopy bank for when the ice cream man comes & was so excited to get the bunny ice cream she had been wanting. She told me, "daddy caught the ice cream man- I love my daddy."
